design lab

Hands-on design lab

To the eye, we build boats. But for us, it’s more than that, it’s product design. A continuous development of unique objects. It’s where vision meets realization, where aesthetics, function, and material come together in one clear line.

Here, design doesn’t live behind a screen. It lives in the hands. We use pencils, paper, fine-line tape, plywood, foam, and clay. We build models, mock-ups, and samples. We sit down with carpenters, electricians and mechanics because everyone sees something different and that’s exactly what we want. That’s how it starts: hands-on, adaptive, in motion. Let’s go.

What we use in
product design

  • HB pencil, sharpener, eraser
  • Yellow pad and olive-green sketchbook
  • Rhinoceros 3D modeling software
  • V-Ray rendering software
  • CNC input for plywood, Corian, Maridur
  • CNC input for stainless steel and aluminum

Jaap, our engineer

“When I’m not at the computer, you’ll find me at my old workbench, getting things done by hand.”

Process-driven
product design

Over the past decade, we’ve developed our own method of product design. One that still defines us: build, adjust, build again. Yes, we make clean 3D models and crisp renderings, but only after we’ve tested in real life. We start with mock-ups, panels, templates, and physical models.

Once we’ve learned what we need to know, we move into digital: 3D models, rendered visuals, and CNC-ready drawings. That’s how we make smart decisions late in the process, without losing speed.

Design and production go hand in hand here. Our workshop is the compass, and the Design Lab provides the input. Engineering flows from that and so does everything else.

Precision meets flexibility

We combine the accuracy of CNC production with the creative freedom of handwork. CNC gives us precision and consistency. Handwork gives us freedom to fine-tune and evolve.

The trick is knowing when to use what and that’s where our team thrives. Most of our craftsmen are specialists in custom work. They’re not just efficient, they’re agile.
They know how to adapt on the spot, without compromise.
We don’t just design for beauty. We design for reality to be built, used, and lived in.

From parts to
product

Design only becomes reality through precise assembly and at Younique, that process stays in our hands. We have our own dedicated team for hardware, assembly, and fabrication. Stainless steel, aluminium, CNC-machined components all built, finished, and installed with care.

Because we work this way, we don’t just connect parts, we connect disciplines. Woodwork, glass, paintwork, systems, every detail relies on the right combination of materials and the way they’re mounted.

The final quality depends on how it all comes together. And with our specialists in-house, we make sure it comes together right. Protected, corrosion-resistant, and ready to last.
